History

Serving families in the tri-state area of West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Ohio for more than a century, Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. has been the longest serving family-owned and operated funeral home in Weirton, West Virginia. With over a century of experience in the funeral profession, the staff at Steel & Wolfe has worked with families to ensure that life's most difficult moments are handled with deep respect and that their loved ones are appropriately honored.

Our founder, Marshall G. Steel, opened the initial location in Chester, West Virginia in 1910. Then, moving it to Weirton in 1915 to Main Street at Avenue B in the north end section of town. In 1927, Steel opened a new funeral home at 3435 Main Street. Twenty-two years later in 1947, Harold E. Wolfe became Steel's partner and the funeral home was located at 3743 Main Street, which many residents will remember as the former Stone & Thomas Department Store location. Within only a year of partnership together, Mr. Steel passed away in 1948.  In 1950, Wolfe moved the funeral home to its present location at 3721 Main Street and became the sole owner and operator of the business and renamed it Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home, while preserving the legacy of its founder. Mr. Wolfe was united in marriage with Dolores E. Fischer Wolfe on May 2, 1954. Together they served families for nearly 50 years. In 1969, a second location was added at 380 Penco Road, Weirton.

After over 55 years of dedication, Mr. Wolfe passed away in 2003, Mrs. Wolfe in 2016. The business continues today through their daughter, Mary Hannah Wolfe-Finton, and son-in-law, Douglas B. Finton who both have served the funeral homes since 1987. The two locations currently operate as Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., and are owned and operated by the Finton's as well as a dedicated staff that is determined to serve area families.
